General presentation of the course
- The selection of the Chinese student candidates for this programme involves a four-step process. An initial selection is made within the best Chinese universities by the professors of these institutions. A second, on a national scale, is coordinated by the China Scholarship Council. The third, in Beijing, is decided by a jury composed of representatives of the China Scholarship Council, of the French Embassy in China and of the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, fifteen months before the students' arrival in Paris (the selected students are then sent to the Alliance française for a year in order to improve their French). A fourth and final selection is then carried out in Beijing, by an identical jury, two months before the students' arrival in Paris.
- Every Chinese student admitted to this programme must attend both the programme's courses (reserved for the Chinese students) and one or two Master courses (in which they will join the French students of our University.
- The programme courses focus on European law (28 hours), European protection of Human Rights (37 hours), the History of the European Construction (10 hours), a general introduction to French law (8 hours), the French law of obligations (8 hours), the organisation of the French judiciary (8 hours), an introduction to German law (10 hours), an introduction to English law (10 hours), an introduction to Italian law (10 hours), and a comparison of French and Chinese contract law (9 hours).
- The list of available Master courses varies from year to year, according to the Chinese students' preferences and to the capacity of Master professors to welcome them. Since 1997, the hospitality of these professors has never failed.
- The students benefit from the help of a student adviser and from tutorials.
- Visits are organised to experience French and European institutions (Cour de cassation, Conseil d'Etat, Assemblée Nationale, Sénat, Conseil constitutionnel, Conseil de la concurrence, Assemblée parlementaire de l'Union de l'Europe Occidentale, Assemblée parlementaire du Conseil de l'Europe, European Court of Human Rights, European Parliament in Strasbourg and Brussels, European Commission).
- A doctoral seminar and a practical seminar on European law were added to the programme in 2006 (45 hours). The first seminar is composed of lectures given by heads of UFR, Doctoral Schools or research centers, and aims at presenting the research centre of our University, the demands of doctoral research and of the writing of a thesis. The second seminar is concerned with a series of conferences delivered by outside contributors, practitioners of European law. Each of these lectures and conferences is preceded by one hour of preparation under the supervision of the coordinator of these two seminars.
- The third term is devoted to an internship within a Parisian law firm.
