"LE MERIDIEN CLIMATIQUE"

THINKING CLIMATE CHANGE THROUGH ART

More and more artists are responding and intend to work against sustainable intensification of climate change. Invested by a deep commitment to the preservation of nature, they try to summon the invisible forces that surround us so that our perception is changing. "Le méridien climatique" or "Climate Meridian" is a half-imaginary circle drawn on the globe and connecting the geographic poles. Always moving, it symbolizes as much global warming as the intangible limit of our ability to reverse changes at work, due to human activity.

Pondering directly to human activity that brings with it devastating consequences for the planet, today’s artistic practices intend to embody a certain idea of change through an artistic practice of social ties. It is now question of inviting the individual to accompany social and solidarity mutations, throughout practices resolutely turned towards our immediate environment. The work of art, in contact with climate issues, questions and invests the individual in accelerating solutions finding.

Continually crossing the meridians by his critical practice of creative space, the artist invites us to realize our faculties as much as to wake up the world community on social issues related to climate changes underway.

Together, artists and scholars are investing in LaSorbonne center and intend to question the greatest contemporary environmental issues, participate in the emergence of new collective attitudes towards nature within our cities, consider art as a vector for social ties in a time when an activity claimed as disruptive seems to take shape around the globe.
